NotesManual simulations: When an ARP request is necessary, whether to send a "ping" or to carry out an IP packet routing, the software requires the addressed IP packet to be built up before the sending of the ARP request. In the case of a "ping", the IP packet to be emitted must be made before the sending of the ARP request; in the case of a packet to be routed, this one must be changed before the sending of the ARP request. In both cases, the MAC address of the packet's recipient should not be indicated right away, as it will be on receiving the ARP answer. Thus, you need to click on the checkbox "by arp" displayed in the packet's configuration dialogue. Internet component: This component works like a "mega-router", simulating the grouping of routers on the Internet by using a consolidated routing table. It can display a "mini-demonstration" in "automatic" and "step by step" modes, according to the way the corresponding option has been parameterized on the "IP/Transport" page ("options" menu). In manual simulation, you are not offered any "mini-demonstration". |
Path of the packets:
By default, the packets follow the "Ethernet way" and you can adjust their paths (this remark also applies to the "Transport" mode). In order to change this path by default, you have to:
