These are the options offered by the Ethernet mode:

Parameter setting, Ethernet mode

The amounts of time are given in milliseconds.

  • "Listening before emission": refers to listening time detected by a transmitter before the frame's emission.
  • "Frame's emission time": refers to the duration of a frame's emission.
  • "Short frame factor": Factor applied to short frames' emission time.
  • "Long frame factor": Factor applied to long frames' emission time.
  • "Hub's turnaround time": time for a hub to re-emit a frame.
  • "Switch's turnaround time": time for a switch to re-emit a frame.
  • "Frames speed": number indicating the propagation velocity of a frame in the cable. The bigger this number is, the faster the transmission will go (this parameter also sets the propagation velocity of the IP packets).
  • "Inter-frame time": refers to the amount of time between the emission of two frames (such a time is visible when a switch's port has to emit two frames successively).
  • "Waiting time during demos": refers to the amount of time between two operations carried out by a mini-demonstration in the automatic mode (this parameter is also used in the other modes).
  • "The stations notify": if this box is checked, the stations are announced when they star in the Ethernet mode. This notification is a means of completing the mac/port tables of the switches, and those of the switches managing the level-2 vlans.
  • "802.1q mark's color": color of the 802.1q mark, which is added to a frame between two 802.1q ports.
  • There is no necessary comment on the other colors, or on the tracing of the nodes.
  • "Slow motion speed in %": this coefficient can slow down the execution in "slow motion" mode (also used in the IP, Transport and Application modes).
  • "Time to re-issue": refers to the time (given in milliseconds) that goes by before a frame is re-emitted, after the detection of a collision. This time is calculated as follows: frame's number (1 or 2) * W * trial number* X * random number (between 1 and Y) + Z. The values referred by W X Y and Z can be adjusted. If W equals 0, the frame's number is not taken into account.
