Presentation

You can use this mode to operate a network at the Transport level. You can:

  • define the ports listened by a station,
  • send a request to a station,
  • answer a request that you have received beforehand.

The IP configuration of a station or of a router allows you to indicate if this element carries out a port address translation of the routed packets. Thanks to this option, all the stations of a local area network can be given an access to Internet, providing that you first activate the translation (natPat) on the router that is connected to Internet, and then that you select the "public" interface in the list of the router's interfaces. You can watch the translations that have been carried out via the packet displayed during the simulations.

You can also give a public access to a local server (port mapping) by adding an entry in the "natpat" table of the router that is connected to the Internet.

Filter rules on the packets can be set on each station or router. If no rule is set, there will be no filtering of the packets. If one rule at least is set, but no one can apply, the packet is blocked.

The "Demo if routing only" check box indicates whether a "mini-demonstration" is displayed when the station or the router does not carry out any translation and when no filtering rule has been set on it.

The procedure for the simulations is the same one as that of the IP mode. The ARP caches of the stations and of the routers will systematically be filled with information during the simulations.
